Tongue Bitten

inspired by Stutter, a song (and album) by the British band James
not the best of my works, yet suited for the last few years. Driven by the remembrance of being bitten by the tongue.

Words have swollen in my mouth
With no way to scream or shout
I could choke on air I breathe
Al you hear's a syncope

There's a beast I won't let out
Set in stone and chains by doubt
And no sound for me to utter
All you hear is but a stutter

Not a meaningful expression
Of what's sometimes named depression
Will you ever understand
Even though I hold your hand

Strive to paint what one could see
With the colors left in me

Tongue might heart years from your grasp
Yet I dream to speak, not gasp
